Prof. Sumru Altug received her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 and 1980, respectively, and her Ph. D. in Economics from Carnegie-Mellon in 1985. She was Professor of Economics at Koç University, Istanbul, Turkey between 2002-2018, and before that held professor positions at the Universities of Durham and York in the UK between 1999–2002. She held an assistant professor appointment at the University of Minnesota between 1984-1994, where she was involved in graduate teaching, graduate supervision, and served on the Graduate Faculty in Scientific Computation at the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute between 1994-1995. She also held visiting assistant professor appointments at the University of Wisconsin and Duke University during 1988-1989 and 1991-1992, and VPI and SU during 1994-1995. She has been a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London, UK since 1997 and she has held visiting appointments at Central European University, Budapest during Fall 2013, the City University of Hong Kong during Fall 2014, and as Mizuho Securities Professor of Economics at the Graduate School of Management at Kyoto University during November- December of 2016. Her research interests are in the areas of dynamic macroeconomic analysis, business cycles, and structural econometrics. Her published work involves econometric analysis of models of cyclical fluctuations, intertemporal models of consumption and labor under complete markets as well as a variety of theoretical and empirical models of investment, business cycles, and growth. She has published papers at top and field economics journals and she has co-authored or co-edited five texts in macroeconomics and finance. She was Associate Editor at the Economic Journal between 2000-2003 and served as a member of the Politics, Economics and Geography (PEG) Research College at the Economic and Research Council (ESRC) in the UK during 2000-2002. In 2016, she was awarded the university-wide Outstanding Faculty Award at Koç University and in 2017, the Science Award in Social Sciences by the Technological and Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Her latest research covers topics such as the role of ambiguity and ambiguity aversion on business cycles, investment under uncertainty and financing constraints for Russia and Turkey and developing coincident and leading financial indicators for emerging economies
