Sylvia Ostry is the Distinguished Research Fellow, Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto. Dr. Ostry has an extensive publication record in international trade, as well as a distinguished career in the Canadian Federal Government, where she worked as Chief Statistician, Deputy Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, Chairman of the Economic Council of Canada, Deputy Minister of International Trade, Ambassador for Multilateral Trade Negotiations, and the Prime Minister's Personal Representative for the Economic Summit. Additionally, she was Head of the Economics and Statistics Department of the OECD in Paris, and currently she is member of advisory boards in the leading thinks tanks in North America and the World.
Dr Ostry obtained a doctorate in economics from McGill University and Cambridge University, and received 19 honorary degrees from universities in Canada and abroad. She was also awarded the highest distinctions in the Canadian National system of honours, including the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Government of Canada and the Order of Canada, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
