Venkatachalam Shunmugam

Dr. Shunmugam is Chief Economist of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd., Mumbai. As Head of the Economic Analysis and Policy division, he is responsible for analysis of market data and trends, and informing the participants, regulators and policymakers of the same as well as the myriad benefits of commodity futures trading in India. Earlier, he worked with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for eight years coordinating between the governments of the US and India on issues related to trade policy. While at MCX, Dr. Shunmugam has contributed a large number of articles, analyses, papers, etc. on a wide range of topics from commodities and markets to issues related to trade policy, financial markets and the recent global financial crisis to a number of reputed national and international publications (journals, financial dailies, trade publications, books, etc).
