€-coin continues to rise in December

- The €-coin indicator rose again in December, to 0.91 from 0.84 in November, reaching its highest level since May 2006.
- The indicator benefited from greater household and business optimism and from the strengthening of the industrial cycle.
- The €-coin indicator developed by the Bank of Italy provides a summary index of the current economic situation in the euro area. The indicator is an estimate of quarterly GDP growth shorn of the most erratic components (seasonal variations, measurement errors and short-run volatility). €-coin is published monthly by the Bank of Italy and CEPR.
- Next €-coin release dates: Wednesday 31 January and Wednesday 28 February (preliminary).
