€-coin stable in December

Friday, December 30, 2011
  • In December €-coin held stable at its November level of -0.20%, interrupting the decline that had begun in June.
  • Among the main variables that make up the indicator, the outcome reflects the improvement in some qualitative surveys of industrial and service firms, which offset the worsening in the indicators of demand.
  • The €-coin indicator developed by the Bank of Italy provides a summary index of the current economic situation in the euro area. The indicator is an estimate of quarterly GDP growth shorn of the most erratic components (seasonal variations, measurement errors and short-run volatility). €-coin is published monthly by the Bank of Italy and CEPR.
  • Next €-coin release dates: Friday, 27 January 2012 and Friday 24 February (provisional).
