CEPR researchers win the first EIB Prize for research excellence
CEPR is delighted to announce that two of its researchers, Elias Papaioannou and Klaus Zimmermann, have won the first European Investment Bank (EIB) awards in recognition of their respective research on "Growth, employment and convergence, with applications to the European Union", which is the topic of the prize.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) Prize, launched this year, is an award created by the EIB Institute to recognise and stimulate excellence in economic and social research, its implementation and diffusion.
Professor Klaus Zimmermann (University of Bonn and Director of the Institute for the Study of Labour (IZA)) was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award" and Professor Elias Papaioannou (London Business School), will receive the 2013 “Young Economist Prize”. Both laureates were honoured for their research that has led to a better understanding of the forces at work in Europe and of suitable policy prescriptions.
Zimmermann has made a major contribution to CEPR over the last 20 years, serving as Co-Director of the Centre's Labour Economics Programme; contributing over 50 research papers to the CEPR Discussion Paper series; and writing and editing several CEPR books and reports on migration and to labour markets in Europe, including European Migration: What do We Know?; Labour Markets in an Ageing Europe; and Migration: the Controversies and the Evidence.
Similarly, Papaioannou has already conributed significantly to the CEPR Discussion Paper series and, among his research relevant to the prize topic has been his work on economic growth with CEPR Programme Director Antonio Ciccone and his work on the euro with CEPR President Richard Portes.
We convey our congratulations to both prizewinners.
The Prize will be presented by EIB President Werner Hoyer and Professor Christopher Pissarides, Chair of the Jury, during the award ceremony to be held in Warsaw on 19 September 2013.
