Giorgio Primiceri appointed to Euro Area Business Cycle Dating Committee
Giorgio Primiceri's research focuses on understanding the causes and propagation mechanisms of macroeconomic fluctuations, and the effect of monetary policy on business cycles. A CEPR Research Fellow and professor at Northwestern University, he has an outstanding publication record and is an associate editor Econometrica, the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of the European Economic Association, and the Journal of Monetary Economics.
The CEPR Euro Area Business Cycle Dating Committee, which is composed of nine CEPR researchers and chaired by Philippe Weil, establishes the chronology of Eurozone recessions. Giorgio takes the place of Domenico Giannone on the committee. “Domenico has done a fantastic job for the Committee, but he is now moving to the public-sector, namely the New York Fed, and so must step down to maintain the Committee’s independence from official institutions,” explained CEPR Director Richard Baldwin. “We are excited that Giorgio was willing to lend his considerable talents to the Committee’s important work.”
