New 'Instant' eBook: Economics in the Time of Covid-19
The coronavirus may be as contagious economically as it is medically, according to a new ebook edited by Vox editor-in-chief Richard Baldwin and Beatrice Weder di Mauro, president of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). Responding to the developing global crisis, this publication by CEPR and VoxEU features contributions by leading economists from around the world, to provide a better understanding of the economic implications of this fast-growing pandemic.
‘COVID-19 is spreading human suffering worldwide; that is what we should all be focused on’, note the co-editors, both professors at the Graduate Institute, Geneva. ‘But we are not doctors. We are economists – and COVID-19 is undoubtedly spreading economic suffering worldwide.’
The key economic questions addressed in the book are: How, and how far and fast, will the economic damage spread? How bad will it get? How long will the damage last? What are the mechanisms of economic contagion? And, above all, what can governments do about it?
