Past, Present and Policy

The Past, Present and Policy (PPP) project grew out of the EHI in 2005. PPP aims at fostering the dissemination and discussion of policy relevant research results from the expanding field of Economic History. The goal is to bridge the gap between economic historians and the policy community. The highlight is the annual PPP Panel Meeting, where six to eight highly focused papers, commissioned from leading academics and raising important policy issues, are discussed. The discussants are policy-makers who draw the lessons from economic history, as well as academics who focus on showing how new historical evidence forces us to reconsider accepted theories. Five Panel meetings have taken place to so far, in Vienna, London, Genoa, Santiago, and Geneva. Papers from the first and the third Panel Meetings have been published in special issues of the European Review of Economic History, Europe's leading economic history journal.
