Programme Directors provide intellectual leadership and direction. They guide and develop the research agenda; maintain high standards in CEPR research; propose new research initiatives and contribute to those proposed by Fellows and Affiliates; participate in obtaining funding both for their programme and for the Centre as a whole; take part in the Centre's dialogue with the users of research in the private sector and policy community; oversee the meetings and publications activities carried out under the auspices of their programme. And they provide a key ingredient: quality control to help identify the right people – researchers to participate in CEPR activities and for appointment as Fellows and Affiliates. In all of these activities, Programme Directors liaise very closely with CEPR staff, funding bodies and researchers.

Programme Directors meet typically twice a year: once at CEPR, with the Directors of other programmes, to discuss issues relating to the organization of the Centre, its activities, and cross-programme collaboration; and once with their Co-Director(s) and  the Appointments Committee, to discuss the appointment of new researchers and reappointment of existing Fellows and Affiliates.
