The Centre's Research Director has overall responsibility for the Centre's research programme and for maintaining the scientific quality of CEPR research. They chair meetings of the Centre's Programme Directors and work with the Chief Executive Officer, the Programme Directors and the President to develop new research directions, in particular those which involve more than one programme area.
Kevin Hjortshøj O'Rourke is the Centre's Research Director. He is the Chichele Professor of Economic History at All Souls College, Oxford; and has served as Director of CEPR's Economic History Programme. He is Fellow of the British Academy and Member of the Royal Irish Academy, and a past President of the European Historical Economics Society. He has written extensively on the history of globalization with his book, Globalization and History (co-authored with Jeffrey G. Williamson) winning the 1999 American Association of Publishers/PSP Award for the best scholarly book in economics. His latest book on the subject is Power and Plenty: Trade, War and the World Economy in the Second Millennium, co-authored with Ronald Findlay, PUP 2007.
In his spare time, Kevin serves as a municipal counsellor in St Pierre d'Entremont, a small mountain village in France.
