Restarting European Long Term Investment Finance – a new CEPR-Assonime Green Paper published today

Thursday, January 29, 2015

CEPR, together with Assonime, have set up a new network and started a major research programme aimed at identifying the causes of the investment dearth in Europe. The research involves a broad ranging examination of the financing of the European corporate sector and seeks to distinguish between supply-side and demand-side factors and between cyclical and structural determinants.

The research team have had several working meetings, and today publish a Green Paper, which is intended to provide discussion of these issues and to guide research.  The programme aims to address the reasons behind the low levels of long-term investment by European companies and the significant decrease that has occurred in the supply of bank credit for small and medium sized enterprises.

The programme is funded by Emittenti Titoli and is directed by Professor Colin Mayer (University of Oxford and CEPR).

There will be a meeting at the headquarters of Santander Bank, London, at 12.30pm on Friday 6th of February to discuss the Green Paper and the research programme. More information is available here.
