This conference is the kick-off-event of a new research initiative on “Geopolitics and International Economics” at the Kiel Institute and brings together many of the world’s leading scholars working at the intersection of geopolitics and economics. The conference features 2 keynotes (by Matteo Maggiori and Nancy Qian), 11 academic papers, and 2 high-level policy panels (on China on Monday, and on Europe on Tuesday). Among others, the topics to be discussed include geopolitical risks, the use of sanctions, the politics of economic interdependence, the rise of China, and global technological competition.
