The network is concerned with the dramatic changes in money and banking that we currently experience across the globe.

Some examples of these developments: innovations in payment systems that bypass traditional intermediaries (banks); the launch of a large number of cryptocurrencies and stablecoins; debates about the merits of broadening access to central bank balance sheets by means of central bank digital currencies; an explosion of ICOs as a funding mechanism for new companies.

The main goal of the network is to generate, coordinate and disseminate relevant academic research and to foster the dialogue between academics and policy makers. Because of the nature of the topics, the network represents a community of researchers coming from different fields of economics (banking, finance, macroeconomics, monetary economics) as well as law.
