Industrial Economics

CEPR held a workshop in London on 10 February on `Empirical Studies in Industrial Economics', organized by Alasdair Smith, Co-Director of the Centre's programme in International Trade. The workshop was held under the auspices of a joint programme of research with the National Bureau of Economic Research on `Empirical Studies of Strategic Trade Policy', with financial support from the Ford Foundation.
The following papers were presented:

`Deregulation of Scandinavian Airlines: A Case Study of the Oslo-Stockholm Route', by Victor Norman (Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, Bergen, and CEPR), as CEPR Discussion Paper No. 403

`Product Innovation and Persistence of Leadership: Theory with Evidence from the Semiconductor Industry', by Harald Gruber (LSE)

`Dynamic Models of Price and Advertising Competition', by Margaret Slade (University of British Columbia)

The workshop concluded with a wide-ranging discussion of research priorities in industrial economics and competition policy.
