International Comparison of the Financial System and Regulation

CEPR's fifth joint conference with the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Tokyo Center of Economic Research, on `International Comparison of the Financial System and Regulations', took place in Tokyo on 11/12 January. The conference was organized by Takatoshi Ito (Hitotsubashi University, NBER and TCER) and Kazuo Ueda (University of Tokyo). Financial support and hospitality were provided by TCER. `Japanese Postal Savings and the Fiscal Loan and Investment Program', Naoyuki Yoshino (Keio University and TCER)

`What Can Japan Learn From the U.S. S&L Crisis?', Edward Kane (Boston College and NBER)

`The Stability of the Japanese Banking System: A Historical Perspective', Shiro Yabushita (Waseda University and TCER) and Atsushi Inoue (Tokyo University)

These papers will appear in a Special Conference Issue of the Journal of the Japanese and International Economies in December 1993.
