How preschool changed the family

Does the introduction of preschool education contribute to a fall in fertility in the industrialised world? Phillip Ager, University of Southern Denmark, puts together data on the spread of the Kindergarten Movement across the US with detailed census records and finds that there is a substantial decline in fertility among women, especially poor and immigrant women, whose children could have attended kindergarten. The research points to the importance of offering early years education as a measure to aid the integration of migrant families.
