Alexander Ludwig is professor of Economics - Chair of Public Finance and Macroeconomic Dynamics - at Goethe University Frankfurt. Prior to joining Goethe University in 2014 he was Professor of Macroeconomics at University of Cologne (since 2009). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Mannheim in 2005.
Alexander Ludwig is also research professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and research fellow at the institutions CEPR, SAFE, Netspar, MEA and ZEW. He has studied the effects of demographic change on growth, on the inter- and intra-generational distribution of wealth and welfare, and has worked on the optimal design of social insurance schemes.
Alexander Ludwig is Editorial Board Member at the Journal of Demographic Economics and the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance and serves as Scientific Advisor to the Deutsche Bundesbank, the European Central Bank and the Alte Leipziger.
His work has been published in leading economic journals such as American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, International Economic Review, Journal of Economic Theory and Journal of Monetary Economics, and he has received about 3000 Google Scholar citations.
