Professor Bichler studied at Vienna University of Technology (TU Vienna). He later completed his PhD at Vienna University of Economics and Business (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien) where he also acquired his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) in 2000. He worked as a research fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, and as a research staff member at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in New York. Since 2003 he has been a full professor in the Department of Informatics at TUM as well as a member of the TUM School of Management.
