Mattia is an Assistant professor at the School of Economics of the University of Nottingham. Before joining Nottingham, he was a Nuffield postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oxford and a PhD student in Economic History at the LSE. In his research, he studies the effect of colonialism, the origin and development of political institutions and the drivers of violence against civilians in conventional war settings. He works at the intersection of Economic History, Political Economy and Development.
