CEPR Women in Economics

CEPR is formalising its efforts to improve female representation in the economic profession with the creation of the CEPR Women in Economics Initiative. Led by CEPR’s Vice-President, Hélène Rey, this initiative will aim to redress gender imbalances in the economic profession, partnering with CEPR member organisations to promote women within the field.

This page collates the various projects CEPR is involved with, or external initiatives that have been endorsed by CEPR, and provides a single platform through which the myriad of high quality output and initiatives can be accessed. WE_ARE Women in Economics: Advancing Research in Economics

In June 2020 CEPR launched a new virtual seminar series WE_ARE Women in Economics: Advancing Research in Economics, where junior women present their work and get constructive feedback from their peers and from senior economists.

The seminars take place bi-weekly on Tuesdays at 1 PM (BST) and last for 1 hour (40-minutes talk, 20-minute discussion). For those interested, after the discussion breakout rooms open for 10 minutes, to give participants the opportunity to network. The seminar series aims to bring together junior and senior women in economics and to contribute to building an active and cooperative CEPR Women in Economics community.

CEPR - UBS Women in Economics

For your information: The Women in Economics partnership and co-operation between UBS and CEPR will formally continue until the end of June 2022. However, some of the mutually featured materials may be used beyond this date

CEPR is working in partnership with UBS to celebrate contributions of women in economics, with a series of portraits and video interviews on a dedicated website. This programme shines a light on quality research and policymaking from female leaders in their field. "Women in Economics" features videos of prominent researchers discussing their work and insights. The content is designed to appeal to non-expert audiences, as well as those with a deeper understanding of economics.

2nd WE_ARE_IN Macroeconomics and Finance conference

Submission deadline: 9 June 2022
Taking place: 29-30 September 2022

The Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), and the European Central Bank (ECB) are inviting submissions for their 2022 conference “WE_ARE_IN Macroeconomics and Finance”. We welcome both empirical and theoretical contributions on topics including, but not limited to:

Climate change and transition challenges
Commodity prices, supply bottlenecks, relative price changes
Origins and consequences of inflation, inflation dynamics
Capital flows and macro-financial frameworks in emerging economies
Monetary policy, normalization and quantitative tightening
Macro and financial stability

PhD student poster session
We invite submissions from female PhD students to present in a poster session. Students who plan to go on the market this coming fall are particularly encouraged to submit.

Policy panel
A policy panel on "Inflation is back: why and what next?" will take place on the first day of the conference.

OECD Recuritment: Economists - The Economics Department

Application closing date: 11th May 2022

The Economics Department is launching a recruitment campaign for Economists to identify candidates for ongoing needs in the Department. Several positions will be opened with a focus varying from structural and macroeconomic projects of a cross-country nature to country analysis. The work entails economic and econometric analyses and drafting papers on diverse policy issues arising in fields covered by the Economics Department.The selected candidate will work under the supervision of a Head of Division and/or a Senior Economist. S/he will be expected to interact with a broad array of stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organisations, other international organisations and academics and of course other OECD Directorates.

Rare Voices in Economics Conference

12th September 2022 - 13th September 2022, Geneva

The conference aims to promote a meaningful discussion among economists of diverse backgrounds, with a focus on a fair representation of all voices in our community. The conference strives to provide a safe space for discussion and exchange of ideas.

Keynote speeches will be delivered by Prof. Lakshmi Iyer (University of Notre Dame) and Prof. Alejandra Ramos (Trinity College Dublin). The conference will feature a public roundtable on "The Effect of COVID-19 Pandemic and Subsequent Countermeasures on Minorities in Academia", gathering perspectives from both faculty members and students.

Ph.D. candidates and postdoctoral researchers in ALL FIELDS are invited to submit a full paper by May 29, 2022.

Women in European Economics: A Real-Time Monitoring Tool

Goethe University, Frankfurt

This project originated from the Women in Economics - WinE Committee - (WinE) of the European Economic Association (EEA), in accordance with its objective to collect data on the status of women in the economics profession in Europe. The data collection was taken further, with financial support from EEA, by WinE Committee member, Guido Friebel, Goethe University Frankfurt, and Sascha Wilhelm, Goethe University Frankfurt. To increase the transparency about the quantitative representation of female researchers in European Economics, Friebel and Wilhelm gathered information from all institutions known to them. They have developed an algorithm that repeatedly collects the data that are publicly available on the institutions' websites.
