The Climate & Environment Theme of the Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) programme invites submissions for a workshop to be held in person on Wednesday 26 July at MIT Sloan, Boston. Paper submissions or extended abstracts are welcomed on any topic relating to the role of private enterprise in addressing the challenges of managing and adapting to climate change and environmental risks, mitigating emissions and decarbonization, and improving local environmental conditions in developing countries. Examples of topics include, but are not limited to: How the economic and policy environment and pre-existing market failures affect the translation of environmental shocks into economic damages; Constraints to adapting to environmental risks and accessing insurance; Challenges that private enterprise face with respect to the creation, adoption, diffusion, and financing of new low-carbon/green technologies; The design of incentives and regulations to limit pollution and greenhouse gas emissions; The impacts of market failures and government capacity constraints on the efficacy of environmental regulations. The workshop will combine paper presentations with sessions that aim to help shape the agenda of PEDL’s new Climate & Environment theme and the associated upcoming calls for funding proposals.
