Senior Economist in the Fiscal Affairs Department and the Expenditure Policy Division at International Monetary Fund

I am currently a Senior Economist in the IMF Fiscal Affairs Department /Expenditure Policy Division (EPD). Before joining the IMF in November 2018, I worked as an assistant professor at the University of Alicante and the University of Warwick, conducting research on political economy, development, and social protection which was published in top academic journals (AER, APSR, JEEA, JDE, EJ). Since joining the IMF, I have worked on several areas of focus of EPD, including energy subsidies, wage bill management, social protection, education, and SDG costing. I received my PhD in Economics from Bocconi University (Italy) in 2010. After graduating, I worked as an assistant professor at the University of Alicante (2010-2013) and the University of Warwick (2013-2018). I was a visiting scholar at Boston University (2008), Harvard University (2012), and the research department of the Interamerican Development Bank (2017). I conducted research on political economy, development, and social protection, which was published in top academic journals in economics and political science, including the American Economic Review, Journal of European Economic Association, Economic Journal, Journal of Development Economics, and American Political Science Review. I joined FAD/EPD in November 2018 and since then I have worked on several areas of focus of EPD, including energy subsidies, wage bill management, social protection, education, and SDG costing.
