Ignacio Martinez

Ignacio Martinez is a policy officer in the Chief Economist unit of the Directorate-General for Energy at the European Commission. He is responsible for delivering economic analysis and monitoring energy markets, with a specific emphasis on the electricity sector. His primary focus is to provide evidence-based analysis to support European energy and climate policy initiatives, including the European Green Deal, 'Fit for 55' package, and REpowerEU. He has more than 10 years of experience in the defence sector. From electrical systems engineer to policy officer, he focused on developing and implementing energy, environmental and climate change policies, developing sustainable and forward-thinking solutions. Ignacio holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Polytechnic Academy (Chile), a Master of Energy Systems from the University of Melbourne (Australia) and a MSc. in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford (United Kingdom).
