Jaime Brown Reis

Jaime Reis is a senior research fellow at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the University of Lisbon. He holds a D. Phil in History from the University of Oxford and has taught at the Universities of Vanderbilt, Leicester, Glasgow, Nova de Lisboa and the European University Institute (Florence). He is a former president of the European Historical Economics Society and currently an editor of the European Review of Economic History. He is a member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and has published on the history of money and banking, human capital, labour, agriculture and institutions, both in Europe and in Latin America. His latest publications are (co-edited with Stefano Battilossi) Financial Systems and the State in Europe and the United States: Historical Perspectives on Regulation in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries (London, Ashgate, 2010) and Uma Elite Financeira. Os Corpos Sociais do Banco de Portugal 1846-1914 (Lisboa, Banco de Portugal, 2011).
