John G. Matsusaka

Charles F. Sexton Chair in American Enterprise, and Professor of Finance and Business Economics in the Marshall School of Business, Gould School of Law, and Department of Political Science and International Relations at University Of Southern California

John G. Matsusaka is an expert on democracy, corporate governance, corporate finance, and government finance whose scholarly work has been published in economics, finance, law, and political science journals. His most recent book is Let the People Rule: How Direct Democracy Can Meet the Challenge of Populism (2020). Professor Matsusaka also serve as executive director of the Initiative & Referendum Institute, a nonpartisan educational organization devoted to the study of direct democracy. He has held visiting appointments at Stanford University (Hoover Institution), UCLA, Caltech, and the University of Chicago, and served as a consultant for the White House Council of Economic Advisors. Professor Matsusaka’s research has received best paper prizes from the Journal of Business and Public Choice. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago.
