John Ries

John Ries is a Professor at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia where he holds the HSBC Professorship in Asian Business. He has a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and received a Ph.D. of Economics from the University of Michigan in 1990. Professor Ries' primary research interests are international trade and business and the Japanese economy. He has published articles in academic journals including the American Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, the Journal of Urban Economics, the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, and the Canadian Journal of Economics. His current research includes assessing the trade creation effects of Team Canada trade missions and measuring the persisting effects of colonial ties on trade flows.
