Kazuhiro Kumo

Kazuhiro Kumo is Associate Professor at the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan. He received a B.A. degree in linguistics and cultural studies from the Osaka University of Foreign Studies in 1994, and a doctoral degree in economics from Kyoto University in 2002. He studies Russian/Soviet economies and is especially interested in industrial/population location patterns and demographic analyses. He takes the lead in the project on “Long-term Population/Labour Statistics for Russia and Central Asia”. He has published papers in several major journals, including Post-Communist Economies and Europe-Asia Studies (formerly Soviet Studies), and these academic works have been cited in major international/Russian journals and in other materials. He is the author of a monograph Migration and Regional Development in the Soviet Union and Russia: A Geographical Approach, Beck Publishers Russia, Moscow, 2003.
