Kurt Schmidheiny is Professor of Economics and Applied Econometrics at the University of Basel in Switzerland. He is also a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR, London) and at CESifo (Munich), a board member of the Urban Economics Association, the Journal of Urban Economics and the Journal of Economic Geography. Prior to moving to Basel, he has been an Assistant Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and a postdoctoral researcher at Tufts University. He holds a PhD from the University of Bern. His research focuses on tax competition, fiscal federalism and urban economics. His research is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Journal, Economic Journal, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, and Journal of Economic Geography.
