Marvin Goodfriend is Professor of Economics at Carnegie Mellon University. He was Director of Research and Policy Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, regularly attending meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee from 1993 to 2005. He holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from Brown University and a B.S. in mathematics from Union College.
Professor Goodfriend was a Senior Staff Economist at the President’s Council of Economic Advisors at the White House, and a Visiting Professor of Business Economics at the graduate school of business of the University of Chicago. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Board, the European Central Bank, the Institute for International Economic Studies at the University of Stockholm, the International Monetary Fund, and the Swiss National Bank. He is currently in the visiting scholar program at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
He has served on independent external review panels for the European Central Bank, the Swiss National Bank, and Norges Bank. Professor Goodfriend has published widely in academic journals, books, and conference volumes. He serves on editorial boards of the Carnegie-Rochester Conference Series on Public Policy, the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, the International Journal of Central Banking, and the Journal of Monetary Economics. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
