Nicholas Crafts, who passed away 6 October 2023, was Professor of Economic History at the University of Sussex Business School.
previously he was Professor of Economics and Economic History at the University of Warwick. He was also Director of the ESRC Research Centre on Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy (CAGE), at Warwick. His main fields of interest were long-run economic growth, British economic performance and policy in the 20th century, the industrial revolution, and the historical geography of industrial location. He published many papers in academic journals and also contributed to research by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
A previous co-Director of CEPR's Human Resources Programme, Nick was also a Research Fellow in the IM and MG Programme Areas, author of many CEPR publications and VoxEU columns, and a regular participant in CEPR activities from 1983 onwards.
