Dr Nikolaos I. Papanikolaou is an Assistant Professor of Banking & Finance at the School of Business, Management, and Economics of the University of Sussex. He also holds an adjunct appointment as Associate Professor at the University of Luxembourg. He has also held several visiting positions at the Stern School of Business at New York University, the Department of Economics at University of Illinois, and the Department of Banking and Finance at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Dr Nikolaos I. Papanikolaou’s research interests lie at the intersection of economics and finance focusing on topics including: bank performance and risk-taking; bank leverage; procyclicality; liquidity provision; bank regulation and supervision; systemic risk; financial stability; monetary policy transmission; accounting practices; corporate culture. His research has been published in several top-ranked academic journals and he has contributed to various collective volumes and conference proceedings. Further, he has presented his work in numerous international academic and business conferences, workshops, and other events. Alongside with his academic activity, Dr Papanikolaou has worked as a Consultant and Financial Adviser in the financial services industry. He currently serves as ad hoc expert witness in court and arbitration proceedings and as a Mediator in bankruptcy cases.
