Satoshi Shimizutani

Satoshi Shimizutani is a visiting research fellow at Nakasone Yasuhiro Peace Institute. His research expertise covers the Japanese economy focusing on both macro and micro aspects. Prior to his current positions, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for International Policy Studies (IIPS) (2007-2012); an Associate Professor at the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University (2004-2007); Counselor at the Economic and Social Research Institute, Cabinet Office (2002-2004), Deputy Director of the Price Policy Division, Quality-of-Life Policy Bureau, Cabinet Office (2001-2002). He joined the Economic Planning Agency in 1990 after graduating from the University of Tokyo (B.A. in Law). He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan in 2002. Shimizutani has been written prolifically on topics such as the social security issues of the elderly as well as industrial and laboir relations. He has been actively promoting the Japanese Study of Aging and Retirement (JSTAR) initiative since 2007.
