Andrew C. Johnston is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of California, Merced and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). His research spans public economics, labor economics, and the economics of education, with particular focus on teacher labor markets and unemployment insurance. Professor Johnston is affiliated with several leading research institutions including the IZA Institute for Labor Economics, JPAL-North America, and the Annenberg Institute at Brown University. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and previously earned his B.S. in Economics and Mathematics from Brigham Young University. His research has been published in leading economics journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, and the Journal of Political Economy.
