Christian Hilber

Associate Professor in Economic Geography at London School Of Economics And Political Science

Christian Hilber is Associate Professor of Economic Geography (Professor of Economic Geography from 1st August 2016) at the London School of Economics. He directed LSE’s MSc Real Estate Economics and Finance between 2003 and 2015. Before that he was an Economist at Fannie Mae (2002-2003) and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Wharton, University of Pennsylvania (1999-2002). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics (1998) from the University of Basel. His research interests include urban economics, real estate (in particular land and housing markets), local public finance, and political economics. He is an Associate of the Centre for Economic Performance and of the Spatial Economics Research Centre. He is also a Member of the Academic Panel of the What Works Centre. He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. He is also an Associate Editor of Regional Science and Urban Economics and of Journal of Regional Science and a Member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Housing Economics. He is a Fellow of the Weimer School of Advanced Studies in Real Estate and Land Economics. He won numerous prizes for his teaching and research including LSE’s Major Review Teaching Prize (2009), LSE Teaching Prize (2016), various best paper and annual referee prizes, and the University of Basel PhD Prize (1999). He has published in journals such as Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Geography, Journal of Urban Economics and Review of Economics and Statistics.
