Hiroshi Yoshikawa is a Faculty Fellow and Senior Research Advisor at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI); professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo; and member, Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy, Cabinet Office, Japan. He received his Ph.D. in 1978 from Yale University. Prior to his current positions, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Economics, University of Sienna (1995); Nissan Fellow at St. Antony s College, Oxford (1991); Associate Professor at Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo (1988-1993); Associate Professor at the Institute of Social and Economic Research, Osaka University (1982-1988); and Assistant Professor at the State University of New York, Albany (1978-1982).His research interests focus on sustainable economic growth and macroeconomic policy, and issues faced by Japan's economy and economic policy. His research has been published in various academic journals including Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Growth and Structural Change, and American Economic Review. He has also published and contributed to books on structural reform and the Japanese economy, macroeconomics and the Japanese economy, and other topics. Professor Yoshikawa has received numerous economics awards including the Yomiuri-Yoshino Sakuzo Award, 2000 (Yomiuri Shimbun); Economist Award, 1993 (Mainichi Shimbun); Suntory Award, 1984; and Nikkei Economic Book Award, 1984 (Nikkei Shimbun). He served as president of the Japanese Economic Association in 2002.
