Hideaki Aoyama is an Emeritus Professor, Kyoto University / Senior Visiting Scientist, RIKEN iTHEMS.. He received his M.Sc. in Physics in 1978 from Kyoto University and his Ph.D. in Physics in 1982 from the California Institute of Technology. Prior to his current position, he was a Professor in the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (1998-2003), Associate Professor in the College of Science (1989-1998), and Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Science (1988-1989), all at Kyoto University. Professor Aoyama was also a Postdoctoral Fellow/Lecturer at Northeastern University (1985-1988), Visiting Scholar at Harvard University (1985-1988), and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (1982-1985).
He is a Faculty Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI)His research interests focus on theoretical physics, economics, and complex systems. His research has been published in various academic journals on physics, linguistics, econophysics, and energy and the environment. He has written three books in Japanese and one in English on subjects including econophysics and classical mechanics.
Professor Aoyama also serves as Principal Researcher, Asia Pacific Institute of Research; executive director, Japan Association of Evolutionary Economics; scientific board member of the Society for Economic Science with Heterogeneous Interacting Agents (ESHIA); Principal Adviser on physical science, Renewable Energy Foundation; and Counselor, NPO: Science Education Exchange “Einstein.” He is a member of the American Physical Society, Japanese Physics Society, and Sigma Xi.
