Jörg Baten

Professor of Economic History at Eberhard-Karls-University Tüebingen

Joerg Baten is Professor of Economic History at the University of Tübingen. He is a CEPR Fellow and CESifo Fellow, Member of the Academia Europaea, Co-editor-in-Chief of the journal “Economics and Human Biology”. Baten was a visiting professor/fellow at the University of Pompeu Fabra, Yale University and Australian National University. His research interests span topics such as identifying long-term welfare and violence trends using archaeological evidence, mapping health development and growth of economies worldwide, and investigating long-term development of human capital from a global perspective. His 94 refereed journal contributions have been published in interdisciplinary journals (for example, Nature Human Behaviour), general interest economics journals (Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Economic Growth), development (Journal of Development Economics), and economic history journals (Journal of Economic History). Nine books/edited volumes complement this (for example, A History of the Global Economy: 1500 to the Present).
