Ruixue Jia

Associate Professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy, Co-Director of the China Data Lab at University of California, San Diego

Ruixue Jia is an Associate Professor of Economics in the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego. Additionally, Ruixue serves as a Co-Director of the China Data Lab, an Executive Secretary at the Association of Comparative Economic Studies (ACES) and Co-Chair for the China Economic Summer Institute (CESI). During the '20-'21 and '21-'22 academic years she was a Visiting Senior Fellow at LSE (on leave from UC San Diego). Dr Jia is interested in the interplay of economics, history and politics. One stream of her research focuses on understanding elite formation and elite influence, in both historical and modern contexts. A second focus of her work is the deep historical roots of economic development. More recently, she started following the ongoing transformation of the manufacturing sector in China and expanded her interest to labor and technology issues. She is affiliated with the BREAD, CEPR, CESifo, and NBER, and is an associate editor for AEJ: Economic Policy, Economic Journal, Journal of Comparative Economics and Journal of Development Economics.
