Thor Berger is a Pro Futura Scientia Fellow XVI at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (Uppsala University), Associate Professor (Docent) at the Department of Economic History (Lund University), and a Research Affiliate at the Economic History programme at the CEPR and Affiliated Researcher at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN). Berger's research uses historical “big data” and quantitative techniques to answer questions that straddles the intersection of economics, history, and sociology. In his ongoing research, Thor studies trends in intergenerational mobility over time and space, the micro-level determinants of innovation and technological change, and firm dynamics during industrialization. His work has been featured in outlets such as the BBC, The Economist, Financial Times, and the New York Times, as well as being cited by organizations such as the World Bank and the WTO. He has also contributed expert advice to the European Commission, the OECD, the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation, and the United Nations.
