Tsutomu Miyagawa is a Dean and a Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Gakushuin University and a Faculty Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI). Prior to his current position, he was Vice President, Gakushuin University (2009-2011); Visiting Researcher, Centre for Economic Performance, London School of Economics (2006); Visiting Professor (2001-2003) and Visiting Lecturer (2000), Economic Research Institute, Hitotsubashi University; Professor, Faculty of Economics, Gakshuin University (1999); Director, Nagoya Branch, Development Bank of Japan (1997-1999); Associate Professor, Economic Research Institute, Hitotsubashi University (1995-1997); Senior Economist, Research Institute of Capital Formation, JDB (1989-1995); Fellow, Economic Growth Center, Yale University (1988); Fellow, Center for International Affairs, Harvard University (1987); Economist, Economic Planning Agency (1982-1984); and worked at the Japan Development Bank. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Hitotsubashi University in 2006. His research interests focus on macroeconomics, Japanese economics, and Asian economic trends. His research has been published in various academic journals including Japan and the World Economy, Japanese Economic Review, and Economic of Innovation and New Technology. He is a leader of several projects in RIETI’s Raising Industrial and Firm Productivity program.
