John Romalis is Professor of Economics at the University of Sydney School of Economics. John graduated from Sydney University in 1992, with First-Class Honours in Economics and the University Medal and then completed his degree in Law. He studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he completed a Ph.D. in 2001, his thesis focusing on modeling international trade. His research is in the field of international trade and foreign investment, with a particular focus on the factor proportions model and on the effects of trade liberalisation.
Romalis was admitted as a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research in 2003 and to the team reviewing papers for the annual Empirical Investigations of International Trade conference in 2007. He spent a year’s leave working at the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C. as a Resident Scholar in their International Trade and Investment Division, helping this division with research into the impact on developing countries of further trade liberalisation under the WTO.
