Michiel van Leuvensteijn is Senior Economist at the Dutch Competition Authority (ACM) monitoring the financial sector. He graduated from the VU University Amsterdam in 1991 and received his PhD in Economics at Utrecht University in 2009. Before joining the Dutch Competition Authority, he was affiliated with APG as Strategic Policy Advisor and with CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis as Senior Economist. He has been engaged in research on the nature of competition in EU insurance and banking markets as Expert at the European Central Bank. He published three ECB working papers on measuring the effects of competition on risk taking and the interest rate pass through and is the editor of the book, A New Measure of Competition in the Financial Industry, published at Routledge in 2014.
