Shu Yu is a Senior Economist in the Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions Vice Presidency at the World Bank. Before joining the World Bank in 2016, she held a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Rochester and worked at policy institutions such as the IMF and the Conference Board. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Groningen and a BSc in economics from Fudan University. Her main research interests are in areas of development economics and political economy. Shu has published in academic journals on a wide range of topics, including the informal economy, political leaders (political instability) and long-run economic growth, China's outward direct investment, and the impact of institutional quality on trade.
