The European Commission, Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Centre for Economic Policy Research are holding a virtual conference on Transatlantic Economic Policy Responses to the Pandemic and the Road to Recovery on November 18, 2021. The conference will examine the economic policy response to the pandemic in the US and the EU, and will also look at common post-pandemic policy challenges for the transatlantic economy.

The one-day conference will feature two panel sessions, a fireside chat, and a keynote speech by Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner for Economy, European Commission. The two panels will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the EU and the US, assess the impact of the respective economic policy responses, consider post-pandemic challenges that the transatlantic economy will likely face in the years to come, including the debt legacy of the pandemic, the sustainability issues related to it, as well as the possible international financial spillovers that it may have on the global economy. The fireside chat will focus on the implications of the new monetary frameworks of the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank for the implementation of monetary policy in a post-pandemic world.

New York Fed President, John C. Williams, will participate in the fireside chat with Philip Lane, Chief Economist of the ECB and Research Fellow, CEPR.
