Achim Truger

Professor of Socioeconomics at University of Duisburg-Essen

Achim Truger is Professor of Socioeconomics, with a focus on government activity and public finances, at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. He is a Member of the German Council of Economic Experts and the Advisory Board of the German Stability Council. He studied economics at the University of Cologne. Afterwards he worked there as a researcher at the Department of Public Finance and at the Research Institute of Public Finance. In 1997 he received his doctorate with a methodological dissertation on "New Public Finance". He then worked as head of the "Tax and Financial Policy" department at the Hans Böckler Foundation in Düsseldorf - first at the Institute of Economics and Social Research (WSI) and then at the Macroeconomic Policy Institute (IMK). From 2012 to 2019 he was a Professor of Economics, in particular Macroeconomics and Economic Policy, at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR). Achim Truger has researched and published in numerous fields of macroeconomic policy and public finance and is engaged in scientific policy consulting for governments, parliaments, trade unions and NGOs from the international to the local level.
