Werner Roeger

Werner Roeger is head of the unit "Models and Databases " at the Directorate General for Economics and Finance at the European Commission in Brussels. He received his PhD from the University of Freiburg (Germany) and worked at the Institute for Applied Economic Research at the University of Tubingen before joining the European Commission in 1988. In 2001 he was a visiting professor at Humboldt University in Berlin.In his work within the Commission he is responsible for developing and maintaining the international macroeconomic model QUEST III, which is used by DG ECFIN for impact assessments of structural and fiscal policies and of shocks hitting the Euro Area and its member states. Another area of activity is the regular calculation of medium term projections, potential growth and output gaps for EU member states and the development of the methodology in the context of the Output Gap Working Group of the Economic Policy Committee. His research interests focus on quantitative analysis of fiscal and structural policies as well as the analysis of external and internal imbalances.
