Antonio Garcia Pascual

Antonio Garcia Pascual is a visiting scholar at SAIS, Johns Hopkins University. His research focusses on applied international finance. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, he was managing director of macro research and chief European economist at Barclays, based in London (2010-19). During his time at Barclays, his macro resarch team was consistently ranked top three by the French Tresor investors survey. Prior to his appointment at Barclays, he was a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund (2002-10). In this capacity, Mr Garcia Pascual was appointed IMF Representative at the Research Task force of the Basel Committee 2006-08 and collaborated with various G20 central banks. Before joining the IMF, Mr Garcia Pascual taught International Finance at the Luwig Maximilians University of Munich (1999-2002) and joined the CESifo Research Network of which he is still a member. His research has been published in academic journals, including the Journal of International Money and Finance, Oxford Economic Papers, and the Review of International Economics. He collaborates regularly with CNBC and Bloomberg and his research has been cited by the Economist, the NYT, the WSJ, the FT, the Times, Handelsblatt, El Pais and Corriere Della Sera. Mr Garcia Pascual obtained his BA in Economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and his MA and PhD in Economics from the University of California, UCSC.
