Gaston Gelos is Assistant Director at the IMF's Monetary and Capital Markets Department, and Chief of the Monetary and Macroprudential Policies Division. Previously, he headed the Global Financial Stability Analysis Division, and prior to that, held various position in the Research and Western Hemisphere Departments, and in the IMF Institute. His research covers a range of topics including monetary policy, financial stability, banking issues in emerging markets, the behavior of international investors, and financial contagion and crises. He has published widely in academic journals. Dr. Gelos holds a Diplom (Economics) from Bonn University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.
